Travel to Villa Maria
From the Fiumicino airport you are recommended to take the FS regional
train (regionale, all directions) to Roma Trastevere station. The trains depart every 15
minutes in day time and the tickets (8 euro), which must be validated before
getting on board, can be bought from the vending machines or from the tobacco
shops at the station. The travel time to Trastevere is 26 minutes. NB Do
not take the Leonardo Express shuttle train because it does not stop at
Trastevere but goes on to Termini Central Station, which is far from the
Gianicolo.
At the
Trastevere station you have basically three options:
1) If you do not have heavy luggage, you can take either Tram 8
(direction Venezia), Tram 3 (direction Valle Giulia), Bus H (direction Termini),
or Bus 780 (direction P.zza Venezia) up to Ippolito Nievo stop (the 2nd stop), where
you have to cross the street to the left and climb the stairs (scalea Ugo
Bassi) up the hill (rather steep rise). Via Ugo Bassi leads directly to Largo Giovanni
Berchet where you see the Casa per Ferie Villa Maria.

2) With luggage, it is perhaps best to take Bus 871 for 10 stops up
to the Carini/Bonnet stop, where you take the first street to the left (Via
Giovanni Livraghi), then take Via delle Mura Gianicolensi to the right and
after 200 metres see Villa Maria on the right. Bus 871 departs every 15 minutes
in the afternoon, but only every 30 minutes in the morning and in the evening. For
tram and bus, you can buy single tickets (1,50 euro) from vendors at the
station or from vending machines on the piazza in front of the station. The
tickets must be validated on board.

3)
You can take a taxi if you wish, but I am afraid we cannot reimburse taxi
trips. The address is Casa per Ferie Villa Maria, Largo Berchet, 4, Gianicolo,
and the taxi may cost anything from 5 to 20 euro. Remember that Rome is special
- whatever transportation option you choose, you will regret later :)
From the Termini central railway station, it may be easiest to take Bus 75
(direction Poerio/Marino) on the south-western side of the Piazza Cinquecento. The
trip is 23 stops and will take 25-40 minutes depending on the traffic. You
should get off at Carini/Bonnet, where you take the first street to the left (Via
Giovanni Livraghi), then take Via delle Mura Gianicolensi to the right and
after 200 metres see Villa Maria on the right. Bus 75 runs every 12 to 20
minutes.
